When I find a beauty product that works, I stick to it like glue as I am sure you all do. With such a massive selection of beauty products available in the world, I feel if I find something that does the trick then I'll stick to it! (pardon the poetry there). But at the same time, they do say variety is the spice of life which is why I thought this month I'd mix up my beauty routine a little.
For the past 6ish months I have been using Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat - Matifying Fluid SPF30 40ml every day first thing before applying make up. This cream is just a wonder product seriously! It is SPF 30 so protects from every day UVA and UVB damage and unlike so many other SPFs for the face it actually mattifys your skin so its the perfect base for make up. It also regulates sebum levels in your skin to prevent breakouts, what a doll! It goes on quite white on the skin but sinks in after a minute, my make up always glides on perfectly after applying this and I noticed a reduction in break outs on my chin, where I usually would get them with other products with SPF. I found this was all I needed to apply before make up rather than applying a moisturiser, an SPF and a primer.
So, even though I love this product I decided to give something else a chance to compete with my wonder lotion. I stuck with one of my favourite French brands as I feel you will always get result with these French pharmacy brands and I went for Avene Hydrance Optimale Rich Protective UV SPF2040ml. It still had the SPF in and seemed to be geared towards optimum moisturistaion which is important in the winter months. I was excited to try it when it arrived and it didn't disappoint. You only need a small amount for face coverage and it smells so lovely. Not too fragranced. Just a light, delicate smell. My skin felt very soothed and moisturised and my make up went on just as smoothly after applying. It also made my skin feel quite taught in a good way and my make up was quite glowy.
In the winter months you don't need as high SPF as I had been using with the Bioderma cream and it was nice to change it up from a sun cream lotion consistency to a more delicate cream so overall I am impressed with mixing things up. I definitely recommend both products highly but if you have more of a sensitive skin type and are very conscious of sun protection I would go for the Bioderma product. Next up, I will be switching my cleanser and conditioner, exciting times!
