Meet fabulous mum of two and blonde bombshell Rachel. A long-time family friend, she has always epitomised the notion of being beautiful both inside and out and she has kindly shared her best beauty tips with me below!
Firstly, can you talk me through your morning beauty routine? What products prepare you for the day ahead?
I am a busy mum of two young kids so in the mornings I am lucky if the concealer finds it's way to my dark circles let alone conceals them! However, on a good day and especially in winter, I use Estée LauderDouble Wear in Desert Beige as it stays put ALL day! I use Rimmel stick concealer in Sand, (a big favourite with lots of women I have interviewed) ,a bit of Rimmel bronzer and XXL mascara by Maybelline by the bucket load! I cannot survive without L'oreal Pro Calcium for the over 65's moisturiser, I use the day and night cream. I know, I know I'm only 35 but this is a little miracle in a pot and they sell it in Tesco!
What are your five top make-up essentials?
- Estée Lauder foundation as it always creates a good base that lasts all day.
- Clinique translucent powder press in Neutral as it gets rid of any shine and touches up my greasy T-Zone.
- Maybelline XXL Lash Effects Mascara in Jet Black.
- A black liquid eye-liner.
- A good blusher, I use a variety of ones by MAC, Estée Lauder and Clinique.
In regards to taking care of your skin, what products keep it feeling moisturised in this harsh winter weather?
I use Dove soap in the shower, it beats any other shower gels or creams for me and makes such a difference to texture of my skin. It smells gorgeous and I can use it on my face too as it is so gentle, which is a bonus.
The beauty holy grail for me is a self-tan that doesn't streak and doesn't smell bad the day after application, can you recommend any self-tans that really work?
Yes, I feel like I have tried them all! I have settled on two favourites now, for my face I use Vita Liberata DEEP for face. It develops gently and lasts for a good few days and the smell is mild, none of that usual biscuity fake tan smell. For my body, I use Xen Tan. It does a face version aswell, this is FAB-UL-OUS and smells amazing.
Do you have a night time beauty regimen?
I don't really have one as I'm usually so shattered I just cant wait to get to bed! I just mostly wash my face with Clean and Clear by Johnson & Johnson and then moisturise with the L'oreal Pro Calcium night cream.
What hair care do you use to maintain your lovely blonde tresses?
I used to use hair products made specifically for blonde hair but found they made my hair quite silvery so I stopped with them. I went through an Ojon phase which is really good and you only need a small amount of product. For the past 6 months I have been using Redken Extreme shampoo and conditioner which I buy in salon size as it is so expensive, I get it from a wholesaler on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/salonesteem/. It works wonders with my hair. making it feel soft and healthy and it maintains my colour really well too.
There has been such a big swell of interest in online beauty tutorials recently, do you ever watch them?
Yes, there are two in particular that I LOVE! This first woman, Lisa Eldridge, is a genius and also so perfect, I hate her http://lisaeldridge.com/video/. The second one that I tend to watch is by Kate Moss's make up artist Charlotte Tilbury http://www.charlottetilbury.com/blog/how-to/the-feline-flick-cat-eye-make-up-tutorial/. I watch it to try and perfect the feline eye as I love this make up look!
Being a mum, have you ever came across any products that are meant for baby skin but work really well for you?
Yes, I use the Johnsons baby oil on my skin as it gives it a lovely sheen and I use the Johnsons shampoo sometimes as it is so mild. Best baby product ever is Sudocrem, it will literally cure anything!
And finally, who is your ultimate beauty icon?
My mum. She was totally stunning and always looked amazing! She worked on a beauty counter in the 60's and always had lots of make up and styles which I would always want to play with.
Thanks to Rachel for letting us have an insight into her fave beauty buys and routines!
