Meet yummy mummy of two and fellow blogger Lucy of the fabulous LucyLovesYa.com. Here she talks to me about her beauty routine, her style icons and her inspirations and future ambitions for her blog. Enjoy!
What is your morning beauty routine? What products get you prepped for the day ahead?
I always drink a large glass of water before I get out of bed, then I will use Clarins peach water and then (currently) a Korres moisturiser. I've just bought a CowShed eye balm - more for the smell as I don't know if eye creams work. I put minimal make up on and don't use a foundation and never have - I have no idea how to apply it. :)
What are your top five make up buys? Are there any particular make up brands that you really trust and always use?
Laura Mercier lipsticks are always lovely colours - as are their Sheer Creme blushers. I literally could not live without Touche Eclat and have used it for years - when I worked in TV I saw pretty much all the make up artists using it. I'm becoming very fond of Nails Inc - it stays on well and the colours are really amazing. I also really love Chantecaille lip glosses because they are really glamorous and the cases are nice and compact.
In regards to skin and body, do you have any weekly rituals to get your skin healthy and moisturised in this harsh, winter weather?
Not as much as I should as I am usually sorting out School runs and walking my dog, as well as working away at home but I have recently started using Burts Bees body moisturisers because they are paraben free and they smell gorgeous. I have for years before this used Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion every single day. I use Organic Surge Bath foams and their shower and bath gels. I do like to spend a bit more on these products because I am doing my best to go more plant based/organic! For my face I use an Eve Lom mask.
What haircare do you use to maintain your blonde hair?
I use Korres all of the time now. I seem to have quite a sensitive scalp and it's the first brand that I've found doesn't irritate it. It also appears to keep the colour well (although i definitely think having a good colourist in the first place aids that). Aveda serum smells divine and I have used it for a really long time.
What is your favourite make up look for when you are going out? Do you tend to concentrate more on your eyes or your lips?
Without fail, I wear liquid liner and a bit of gloss, so I guess you could say it's a vintage look. I tend to do make up nowadays in about 5 minutes, as opposed to half an hour before my daughters were born. :)
Do you ever watch beauty tutorials and if so, which ones do you love?
I don't have a favourite but the vintage ones are always fascinating. They have such a steady hand!
Where are your favourite places to shop online and on the high street?
I like LoveLula because they have loads of natural skincare products and Space NK is just brimming with loveliness!
Who is your beauty/style icon?
Julia Roberts is definitely an icon of mine because she wears very little make up and always looks good. I do think Gwen Stefani has a cool look too.
If money was no object where would you shop all the time?
Oh! Liberty London and Selfridges. I do like Creme de la Mer products also.
Can you tell me a bit about your blog and what inspired you to start it?
I had started sewing and wanted to show some of my makes. I also thought it might be a nice way of connecting with like minded people. I've been lucky enough since then to interview many of my absolute favourite brands, designers and artists including Tatty Devine, Chie Mahara and Horace Panter from the Specials. I have quite an eclectic mind and I think it shows in my updates! :)
Favourite part of having a blog?
Well, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a perk sometimes being sent products by brands that I like. it's always very flattering when they want to work with me. But more importantly, I have met so many nice bloggers - plus it keeps you focused and really does inspire ideas. It's a great platform and always good if people want to know more about you.
Aspirations for the future of the blog and what it may lead to?
Well, I will keep blogging away and good things really are coming of it. I have an ASOS Boutique/new brand starting up and it's all very exciting. Good luck with yours too, it's looking fab x
Thanks to Lucy for sharing her great beauty tips ( I will definitely be giving Touche Eclat a go!) and for giving us an insight into her blog. I was so inspired by the friend's quote Lucy spoke of on her About page also.
Ps – A friend once said to me “Don’t ever be intimidated by a talented person, be inspired by them” – Some of the best advice I’ve ever had.
Excellent advice I think!
